Root canal treatment

A root canal is needed when the tooth's nerve is inflamed, irritated or dead, often from deep decay, a crack or a large filling. The goal is to save your own tooth rather than remove it.

In the first session we numb the tooth well, remove the inflamed nerve and blood vessels, clean and shape the root canals and place a temporary filling. At the next visit we check that everything is settled before placing the permanent filling. Some teeth later need a crown to withstand chewing forces.

The treatment is done gently and with proper anaesthetic, so for most people it hurts no more than an ordinary filling. We take whatever breaks you need along the way.
